Verapamil Calan Isoptin
Bolus doses are administered by direct IV injection over a
minimum of 2 minutes.
Mix 100mg in 250 ml D5W.
Concentration 0.4mg per ml.
Initial 0.075-0.15 mg/kg over 3 minutes if needed administer
second dose of 0.15 mg/kg in 15-30 minutes.
Maintenance: 1-10 mg/ht infusion.
Action: Calcium channel blockers-direct negative chronotropic
& negative inotropic
effect
Use: Acute and preventive treatment of PSVTs, and slowing
ventricular response in atrial flutter and fibrillation
Verapamil: 2.5-5mg IV bolus over 2 min; repeat dose 5-10mg in 15-30
min then 5mg q 15 until desired response or total dose of 30mg
given
Reduce oxygen demand; decreased SVR caused by vasodilatation of
vascular smooth muscle (coronary vasodilation)
